Q: Can a person self-nominate and be considered without having to obtain a nomination from a partner in their current law firm?
A: No. A key component of the Stakeholder 100 evaluation is the Partner Nomination Form. The Partner Nomination Form is designed to help us better understand current levels of investment in the candidate.
Q: Can nominees who are not selected be re-nominated for future Stakeholder 100 awards?
A: Yes.  The Stakeholder 100 designation will be conferred on an annual basis and all eligible nominees/applicants can apply again and will be considered in each nomination pool.
Q: By soliciting information regarding the performance of Associates, aren’t you meddling in "internal" law firm affairs?
A: No. Our focus is limited to attorneys identified by the law firms as top performers. Top performing law firms want the in-house community invested in the growth of their top performing attorneys. Such top performing law firms understand that their top performing lawyers constitute a large portion of the client's "return on investment."
Q: In the answer above and in your press kit ad, what is meant by "top performance is our return on investment"?
A: In-house counsel expend significant resources engaging outside counsel.

An important byproduct of such investments is the accrual by outside counsel of significant subject matter expertise; expertise that returns long term value to the client-investor. Consequently, top performance is the single most important evidence of a high return on investment.

With respect to Associates of color, the Stakeholder 100, helps in-house stakeholders to see their "return on investment".

Q: Why is the Stakeholder 100 focused on individual attorney achievement? Isn't law firm/law department commitment the appropriate focal point?
A: Law firm, law department and other forms of institutional commitment are certainly important first steps, ones that are appropriately celebrated by other organizations. The many national and state bar associations, the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, the "Call to Action" effort; all have done at outstanding job at raising diversity awareness and signaling institutional commitment.

We join these organizations in saluting institutional commitment to diversity.

Stakeholder 100 is designed to identify and invest in the top performing Associates who reflect the "results" and "deliverables" of such institutional commitments and efforts.

Q: So what's in it for a law firm? Law firms generally like to understand the marketing/branding opportunities presented by such efforts.

Where are the marketing/sponsorship opportunities here?

A: We believe the Stakeholder 100 represents an enormous value proposition for the law firms:
  1. Law firms will have the opportunity to enlist an exciting group of senior in-house counsel as direct investors in the firm and its top performing Associates.
  2. Law firms (via selected nominees) will be recognized and honored for their commitment to top performance.
  3. There are sponsorship opportunities. For example, law firms with Stakeholder nominees and awardees will have the opportunity to sponsor a) the Stakeholder 100 Award ceremony and dinner and b) the Stakeholder Academy.
